Cavities: You can prevent them!

No one is completely protected from cavities. However, there are many habits that can help prevent them, and others that nearly guarantee the appearance of new cavities.

Some basic tips:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day.
  • Use a chronometer to measure the amount of time spent brushing your teeth. A good cleaning should last 2 minutes. Add time to your routine if you realize that you are not brushing your teeth for long enough.
  • Electric toothbrushes are generally more efficient than manual ones.
  • Brush all parts of the mouth, including the tongue.
  • Floss at least once a day.

By combining these simple tips with healthy eating habits, the reduction of sugar in your diet, and regular visits to the dentist, you are limiting the damage that bacteria can cause in your mouth.

What about my kids?

It is not always easy to ensure healthy dental habits in children. The most important step is education; with time, this will help establish appropriate routines. Brush your child’s teeth yourself at least once a day for as long as it is possible to do so. Regular dentist visits beginning at the age of 2 will ensure that your child adapts quickly to the tools and procedures used during exams and cleanings.
